Cooking from the Heart, Without a Single Egg
Hello! I’m Elsie Marlow, a 46-year-old home cook from the little village of Castleton, nestled in the green heart of the Peak District. Life here is quiet in the best way: stone cottages, cheerful neighbours, and more sheep than people. But it’s in my kitchen, with my daughter Molly by my side, that things really come alive.
My journey into egg-free cooking began with Molly. When she was two, we discovered her severe allergy to eggs, and everything changed. I remember holding her tiny hand at the doctor’s and thinking, “Alright then, we’ll find a new way forward.” At first, I was overwhelmed. Cakes? Pancakes? Even some breads? It felt like everything I loved was suddenly off-limits. But Molly deserved to enjoy every bite of her childhood, and I was determined to give her that joy, egg-free and full of flavour.
So we learned together. Many days, you’ll find us side by side at the kitchen counter, her with a wooden spoon twice the size of her arm, me in my apron, grinning at our next experiment. We’ve made aquafaba fluff for cupcakes, flax “eggs” for banana bread, and tofu scrambles that fooled even my sceptical brother. Not every attempt has been a success (we still laugh about the chia-seed pancake that turned into a rubbery frisbee), but every recipe is a memory, and every memory is ours.
What started as a necessity has become a passion. I now cook egg-free not just for Molly, but for anyone who needs it: vegans, allergy-conscious families, Jains, or just curious cooks who’ve run out of eggs at the wrong time. I believe food should be welcoming. It should gather people, not exclude them. That’s why I love this space at NoEggRecipes.com. It’s for all of us who choose, or need, to go eggless, but never joy-less.
I still live in our cosy cottage with ivy creeping up the walls and the scent of rosemary wafting through the windows. Our kitchen is the heart of it all: bright, a bit cluttered, and always filled with laughter (and sometimes cherry tomatoes rolling onto the floor). My cooking isn’t fancy. It’s practical, comforting, and full of love, just like the hands that help me make it.
If you’re here looking for that kind of food, you’re in the right place. Whether you’re baking for a child with allergies, experimenting with vegan swaps, or just after a hearty meal with zero eggs, I’m so glad to welcome you to my kitchen. Let’s cook something wonderful together.
